Red Oktober was back providing a weekend of Eastern Bloc motoring taking in two museums, both newly opened in 2021, plus road runs through fabulous Derbyshire scenery.
Friday: Early arrivals met at the National Brewery Centre, Burton on Trent, before moving on for evening meal and drinks.
Saturday: A morning circular road run headed out from Derby into the edge of the Peak District. Refreshments were at the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway before we moved on to Red Oktober Eastern Bloc vehicle meet at Derby’s new Museum of Making which celebrates the area’s rich history of innovation and manufacturing. We displayed our vehicles at Cathedral Green, directly outside the Museum. Our evening meal was enhanced by Dave Richards’ presentation ‘Behind the Scenes at Car SoS’ covering his role in the prodution of this popular TV series.
Sunday: A longer road run took us through traditional villages and farms of the Derbyshire Dales before climbing into the edge of the Peak District. Our tea/coffee break was at Homesford Tea Rooms alongside the historic A6 trunk road in the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site. We then moved on to our second Eastern Bloc vehicle meet of the weekend at the new Great British Car Journey. With interactive technology guides, this great venue features over 100 carefully selected cars, from Austin Seven to Metro and Beyond!
