Welcome to our opening event of 2024.
Saturday: We start with a visit to the National Museum of Flight: https://www.nms.ac.uk/flightYou can get up close and into many of the aircraft amongst the museum’s impressive collection, including concorde. We are hoping to display our vehicles at the museum with an appropriate aircraft backdrop.
In the afternoon we convoy to the excellent Myerton Car Museum: https://www.myretonmotormuseum.co.uk/ . Museum was founded in 1966 and has a large collection including cars, bikes, motor cycles and commercial vehicles dating from 1899, also period advertising, posters, enamel signs and toy vehicles.
Sunday: We convoy from our base (or meet you there) at historic Leith, just north of Edinburgh, for a tour around the iconic Royal Yacht Britannia: https://www.royalyachtbritannia.co.uk/.
There were rumours that adjacent building work might see Britannia closed around the time of our visit. We don’t think this will happen now, but if it does we’ll head to the National Trust’s historic Preston Mill: https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/preston-mill and the Union Chain Bridge: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Union_Chain_Bridge. Dating from 1820, this suspension bridge spans the River Tweed connecting England and Scotland and was reopened to traffic in 2023 after extensive repair.
You’re welcome to join us for a short while or the whole weekend. For those coming from further afield and stopping over, we’ll suggest accommodation (likely to be in the seaside town of Dunbar) and arrange evening meals on Friday and Saturday .
